The service
The Chess Timer (thechesstimer.com) is a free chess clock that runs in your browser, operated by The Chess Timer team. You can use it without an account. By using the site, you agree to these terms.
No guarantee for timing
We build and test the clock carefully, but we provide it “as is”, without any warranty. We do not guarantee that it measures time accurately or runs without interruption. Your device can stop or distort the clock at any time, for example when the screen locks, the battery runs out, the browser pauses or closes the page in the background, or the operating system installs an update. Before an important game, check that your device is ready for it (auto-lock off, battery charged).
In tournaments, the rules of the event apply. If an arbiter is present, their decision about the clock and the result is final.
Results of your games
The clock only shows the time. Whether a game is won, lost or drawn is decided by the players or the arbiter. We are not responsible for game results, rating changes or prizes, even if a result was affected by a device problem or a timing error.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damage that results from using the site. This does not apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, to injury to life, body or health, or wherever the law does not allow liability to be excluded.
Fair use
Please don’t use the site in ways that harm it or other people, for example by attacking it, overloading it or trying to get around its security.
Content and citing
The texts, tables and images on this site belong to The Chess Timer. You may quote them and use our reference tables, as long as you visibly link to the page you took them from. The names of chess federations and other trademarks belong to their owners.
Changes
We may change or discontinue the site or these terms at any time. The current version is always on this page, with the date at the top.
